Frequently asked questions!

The kit will work on wooden framed windows, often though the gap between the two panes is small 4-12mm, you can still drill these however you have to drill slower which will make the drill bit hotter and burn through them faster.. It will be important to keep the drill bit as wet as possible.. If the drill bits do wear faster then additional drill bits can be purchased..

The other key point is to make sure you let the drill do the work and do not put too much pressure on the drill, as you break through the outer pane of glass you don’t want the drill to kit the inner pane….

You will not be able to use the magnets in the kit to put one inside the window to move any debris that may fall in while drilling… this is due to the magnets being 4mm so they would get stuck…

Other than that as the kit will work as normal.

As always please ensure the windows are not toughened glass as you cannot drill this, we have a toughened glass kit if required.

Toughened glass in the UK if installed after 1996 should have a kit mark in at least one of the corners of each pane. If you see this then the windows are toughened. If not then these should be standard glass. There are ways to tell with a laptop and polarised sun glasses and there are some videos on YouTube that will explain how to do that..

If the windows are in a conservator or in patio doors, then you should assume they will be toughened as that’s what UK regulations requires.

Yes, this is exactly what the kit is designed to remove.. Its the dry white streaks that the kit cannot do anything about as that’s dried on.. any. Mist / fog / moisture droplets that are between the panes will evaporate with this kit

NO. You never want to put silica gel inside your window, silica gel will absorb moisture but will not disappear once they have fulfilled their purpose. You will be left will all the gel rattling around in the bottom of your window.

The drying agent we use is based Upton CaCa2 (Calcium Chloride) specially designed to kick start the extraction process and then will evaporate as part of the drying process.

The answer is YES, BUT. We have a kit for toughened glass windows however as you cannot drill toughened glass as it will instantly shatter, you have to access the door or windows from the size of the frame.

This means that it must be a door, or a windows that opens, or is adjacent to  a door or window that opens, so you can drill through the side of the frame into the spacer bar between the panes.

Yes, these windows with the lead dressing in are only on the outside for decoration. the inside of the window remains a single glass unit so just drill the 2 corners like any other regular window.

Yes, the kit will work on triple glazed windows you just have to do this a different way. If you want to know more then please contact us for further information.
